In Spiritu has opened its doors bringing a unique combination of inspirational items, mindful gifts and traditional and organically-grown flowers to conscientious consumers in Tucson.

My mother and I combined efforts and ideas to bring this vision to fruition. After three years of research and a desire to fulfill my own needs as a consumer, I decided to open my own store. My mother was interested in opening a store of religious items in preparation for her retirement in a couple of years. The two of us compromised on the idea of what a store meeting both of our needs and interests could look like and so In Spiritu was born.

I found it frustrating having to go to dozens of stores or websites to find the products and gifts I’m interested in purchasing, so I decided there had to be an easier way. Included in the inspirational items are not only spiritual and Christian-based books, gifts, and beautiful rosaries, but also Buddhas, CDs on meditation, healing bracelets handmade with semi-precious stones having a specific use and/or meaning; and, greeting cards, journals and magnets with Biblical scripture, quotes by Rumi, the 13th Century Persian poet theologian, or Thich Nhat Hanh the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, among others.

Products that are made of natural and/or renewable materials, and those deemed fairly-traded are also something In Spiritu carries. You can custom-blend your own fragrance oil in our aromatherapy section and add it to a lotion, body wash or bubble bath, opt for a lovely silk-brocade aromatherapy pillow filled with flaxseed and the essential oil of lavender or rose-geranium or choose from a selection of silk products. There is a handsome collection of handmade baskets from several countries in Africa, including some very colorful ones made of recycled telephone wire. Purchasing these products contributes to the artisans and members of the cooperatives economic and social well-being. Items from other developing countries are on their way.

South America is where the certified organically-grown flowers are shipped from. Since the selection and availability of these blooms is limited, but increasing, traditionally-grown flowers complement the offerings. Now, those wanting flowers for their home, as a gift, or special occasion grown in a more sustainable manner have an option.

In Spiritu is about making easily available those things encouraging us to connect to Spirit, each other and the Earth. The store is located at 6061 E. Broadway in Suite 124, across the street from Park Place Mall, and is open Monday through Friday 10a.m. to 6p.m. and on the weekends from 10a.m. to 5p.m.
